Enterprise Week events aimed at helping SMEs

Workshops on Brexit, marketing small businesses and on using the internet to develop sales opportunities are among events organised by the Local Enterprise Office in Westmeath for the first week in March.

The events organised for Westmeath are among 300 taking place across the country as part of Local Enterprise Week 2020, March 2-6, and during which the aim is to support small businesses and foster entrepreneurship.

The final day of the week falls on International Women’s Day, which will be celebrated with a regional Women-In-Business network event.

“Local Enterprise Week is a chance for small businesses and for those possible future start-ups to see the full range of supports out there for them,” Christine Charlton, head of Enterprise in Westmeath County Council said.

She said no matter what their business challenge or sector the Local Enterprise Offices will be putting on events for everyone.

“Whether it be LEAN workshops, trading online, sales and marketing, customs procedures, mastering social media, or simply, how to start a business, then it will be covered.”

Aside from the formal aspects, there is a valuable social dimension to the week as well: “It is also a great chance to network and broaden your connections in business,” she says.

The Local Enterprise Offices located in the local authorities and funded through Enterprise Ireland support some 7,000 small Irish businesses and entrepreneurs nationwide.

Since their establishment in 2014 they have helped create 18,000 jobs and provide a range of supports to small businesses including mentoring, training and sector specific expert to help guide businesses at any stage of their development.
