Tesco have €1m for good causes and want Westmeath to be involved

Tesco Ireland have announced the launch of Tesco Community Fund, which will see €1m donated annually to good causes throughout Ireland. TV presenter, Kathryn Thomas, met the store managers from Westmeath to support the launch of the initiative and is calling on good causes in Westmeath to get involved.

Every six weeks, each Tesco store in Westmeath will donate up to €1,000 (€500 in smaller stores) between three good causes in its community. Customers will decide how the funding is shared by voting for their preferred causes in store.

From today, every time customers shop in any Tesco store in Westmeath, they will receive a token of goodwill to place in the donation box of the good cause they would most like to support. Every six weeks, the number of tokens is counted and up to €1,000 is distributed proportionally between three good causes. The more tokens a local good cause gets the larger share of the donation they will receive.

Tesco stores in Westmeath are today calling on customers, good causes, schools and charities from across the county that could benefit from donations to get involved by completing a nomination form in their Tesco stores. Up to 3,500 local good causes in Ireland will receive a donation through the Tesco Community Fund this year alone.

Joe Ryall, manager at Tesco Mullingar, said: “Our stores in Westmeath are at the heart of hundreds of communities across Ireland, and as a company we really want to positively contribute to each community in which we operate. We are delighted that through our Tesco Community Fund we will be donating up to €1,000 every six weeks between three local good causes in Westmeath and that our customers will have a say in how the funding is shared.”

Tesco store managers will be issuing an information pack to all nominated good causes to inform them about how the Tesco Community Fund works. It will also include helpful tips on how local good causes can maximise the promotional opportunity in-store to help generate awareness of their local good cause.
