Gerry Maguire wins Captain"s Prize

The final round of the 2008 Captain"s Prize took place on Saturday, June 21. Sixty players qualified from the first round the previous weekend. Unfortunately, the weather chose not to co-operate and, because of this, it was not possible to complete the final round. It started on schedule and a number of players began their rounds. At about 3.30pm it began to rain heavily and a number of greens were flooded. Play was suspended until 5pm. During that time the rain stopped and the excess water was absorbed. At 5pm, after an inspection, the Captain decided to resume play but, unfortunately, the weather deteriorated considerably. Thunder and lightning and torrential rain forced the abandonment of the round. It was decided that the scores from the qualifying round would be taken as the final result.Past Captain, Gerry Maguire, with a nett score of 64, was declared the winner of the Captain"s Prize. Congratulations Gerry and well done. The presentation of prizes took place in the clubhouse later that evening and everyone had a very enjoyable night. The club wishes to congratulate Stephen on a wonderful occasion and wishes him well for the remainder of the year.
