Folk, blues, rock and pop all the way from NYC
Join two of New York City"s most sweet and sinful songbirds for a night of American music at the Stables on Thursday, September 4. With a mischievous approach, Kirsten Thien and Galia Arad, each combine traditional folk, blues, rock and pop, drenched in musical influences ranging from Billie Holiday to Britney Spears. At a time when 'things American' have been tough to swallow, these ladies serve up an irresistible taste of Americana to thrill and fill you. Grab your fork "n glass!Kirsten (McCulla) Thien (aka KT) has been touring the U.S. for four years featuring her unique blend of soul, blues and rock "n roll. But, back in school she was what"s known as a "nerd", apparently. Just before she was about to graduate from college with a finance degree, someone introduced Kirsten to the Blues. Kirsten ran the numbers and figured out a career in music could only work if she wrote her own songs. So, just like so many of her own musical heroes, Kirsten started copying the people she loved most. While Kirsten is on tour in Ireland and elsewhere in Europe, she will also be searching out her roots. Galia has been trying to convince Kirsten not to tell people on tour that she"s searching out her roots, but Kirsten"s as stubborn as her predecessors and insists that she will find better accommodations if she finds her family in Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Norway and Germany (as well as a rumoured great-uncle in Vietnam). This American girl may smile a lot, but make NO mistake, KT will bring you the blues, and you will love it!Galia is a true American wife in the making - sans her values and domestic abilities. 'I hear a way to a man"s heart is his stomach. That"s why I pretend to cook pies,' says Galia. This lady is a hot ticket in New York City, but has also toured Japan where she not only gigged, but was the first place winner of a sake chugging contest and runner up of a wet kimono contest. As for her less impressive accomplishments, she is the winner of Songwriter Hall of Fame"s Abe Olman award, and a winner of The Great American Song competition. Galia first met Kirsten Thien at The Red Lion, an Irish saloon in the heart of Greenwich Village. Kirsten was performing and Galia was facedown at the bar. 'When Kirsten started to play, it was like music to my ears.' Galia introduced herself to Kirsten afterwards and asked Kirsten to sign her chest. Though Thien refused, she agreed to tour Ireland with her, after Galia told her she could cook amazing pies.Guests on the night are Carosel.
