The Woman in Black

On Thursday, October 23, The Woman in Black plays at the Mullingar Arts Centre. Presented by Citytheatre Dublin, the Michael Scott produced The Woman in Black has been playing to sell out audiences the country over and was a huge success when first performed in 2007.The play is currently running in the West End of London and has been doing so for the past 20 years and is a fabulously technical and riveting if not scary piece of modern theatre that has had audiences screaming when leaving the show.Based on a Susan Hill novel this stage adaptation is about a young Mr Kipps ( played by Simon Coury) sent to an isolated house to finalise the will of a deceased old woman. His experiences have such an effect on him that he feels he must tell the tale publicly and is coached by an actor ( played by David O"Meara) who then plays Kipps leaving the real Kipps to narrate and play some of the other parts. Eerie noises, atmospheric sounds and spooky lighting make this a thoroughly riveting piece of theatre and the audience is dragged in and have to use their imagination to delve into the realms of the human psyche.Mullingar audiences are lucky to get the opportunity to view this modern masterpiece and with tickets priced at €20 it is well worth a peek. Drawing on years of experience in direction Michael Scott brings to life this wonderful piece and brings the audience on a journey that will see them question what is real and what is not. Tickets are available at the Arts Centre Box office at 044 934777 and this show is certainly one not to be missed, and it"s just in time for Halloween!!!
