Moate Golf Club Notes
Last Saturday night Captain, Padraig Keenan, and Lady Captain, Mary Kerrigan hosted the Annual Captains" dinner in the clubhouse. Carmel Scally (Lady Vice Captain) introduced Mary and complimented her on her commitment to the club during her term in office. In reply Mary thanked all of the members and committee who had made her job such a pleasant one.Tony Dunne used his musical talents by introducing the Captain, Padraig, poetically, and referred to the work done by Padraig during his time on the Committee. In reply, Padraig praised the efforts of the full time staff, the volunteers who look after competitions, the juniors, the handicap system and all of the other tasks which are necessary for the smooth running of the club. The night finished with a lively dancing session, orchestrated by Niall Ruttledge and Bojangle. Pride of place on the night was reserved for the two pennants (Ladies Junior foursomes and Mens Central Towns) won by Moate during the year.Club newsAlthough the Winter League and Turkey competitions continue, the harsh weather has ensured a very small turnout over the last week. There was less than two days golf last week, so the turkey competition has been rolled over until this week, and the Winter League table will be updated on Tuesday next. The Ladies" club wishes to congratulate Captain Padraig Keenan and Lady Captain Mary Kerrigan, on a very enjoyable Captains" Dinner. A great night was had by all who attended it. Ladies please take note that the Christmas Social is on Sunday 14th December.Tee times for the golf are between 12 noon and 1.30 pm. The meal is at 5 pm. A good turnout for both golf and meal would be appreciated.Course developmentsWhile playing golf has taken a back seat for the moment, the on-course developments continue. Currently there are 140 tree ready for planting out on various parts of the course.Following a recent meeting of the Greens Committee, several strategic areas were identified for this planting. This development will add interest to the course, and perhaps a further degree of difficulty also. The work is testament to the vision of Tom Higgins (Course Manager) and Tommy Coughlan (Greenkeeper) who purchased these saplings a few years ago on behalf of the club, and we can all look forward to enjoying the fruits of their labours for years to come.
