The Rossan girl won gold in the Leinster indoor championships 1500m and went on to become the All Ireland champion over that distance. Amie also had a great outdoor season winning 1500m silver at both Provincial and National level. In the schools competitions Amie moved up to 3000m taking the bronze medal. She represented Leinster in the Tailtean Games interprovincial where she won Bronze. These performances along with her good form during the Cross Country season make her a worthy recipient of a Leinster star award. Amie travelled to Carlow with her parents Michael and Claire to receive her award at a function held in the Seven Oaks hotel last Friday. I"m sure we will hear lots more about Amie"s exploits on track and over country in the coming years.Congratulations to Michael CoyneSpecial Congratulations to Michael Coyne of Kinnegad who celebrated his 70th birthday at the weekend. Michael has given great service to Kinnegad to the surrounding areas in so many ways over the years that Saturday night was a fitting tribute to him. Michael was joined by his wife Mary and many family and friends at Nanny Quinn"s for a night of music and dance. He took to the microphone himself with his old band mates Tony Glynn, Mike Plunkett, Johnny Coleman, Billy Geoghegan and others to celebrate what was a wonderful occasion for Michael and for all the Coyne family.ns the Centra store in Rochfortbridge, is making her first bid for political office. Her father ran for election in 2004.Third Annual Killucan Vintage ShowSunday next, January 18 is a very important day for people living in the Killucan and Kinnegad areas, with the committee organising the Annual Killucan Vintage Rally meeting at Rathwire Hall to discuss preparations for the third annual event, which takes place on the second Sunday of May. It is hoped that a large crowd of people from these areas will turn up to have their say at the meeting. The first Killucan Vintage Rally in 2007 attracted over 400 motor exhibits, and last year the number increased twofold, with thousands of people coming to the rally venue at Thomastown, Killucan. While many of those in attendance were vintage vehicle enthusiasts, many others were simply there to reminisce about the good old days, or to enjoy a fun day out with their families. The organisers are prepared to pull out all the stops to ensure that the third annual show is the largest and most successful to date, and as the show has grown in stature to such a degree over the years, it"s not a question about making the event a success, but more a question of organising it in a controlled fashion!Drawing motor enthusiasts from the 32 counties, as well as the UK and Europe, the show is a great advertisement for Westmeath, set in such tranquil and unspoilt surrounds as Thomastown, surrounded by walkways, the Royal Canal and some beautiful scenery. This, of course, prompted many who supported the show in the past to return for the second year, and they will more than likely be back in May once again. All profits from the show will go directly to national and local charities, while hefty donations will be made to the schools in the local area. The late Mai (Mary) Martin, CoralstownOn St. Stephen"s Day, December 26, 2008, the Coralstown/Kinnegad area lost one of its most respected citizens when Ms. Mai (Mary) Martin, of Kneadsbridge, Coralstown, Mullingar, passed to her eternal reward.Mai, who had worked in a senior role in Penney"s in Mullingar for many years, was a popular lady known for her good humour and her love of sport, and the company of her family and friends.
