Thursday January 22nd meeting at Mullingar featured four first round heats of a 525 yds sweepstake which is kindly sponsored by Moate Medical Centre with a winners prize of £1,015.In the first heat Innfield Lady forged to the lead in the back straight and made all the running to hold off the late challenge of Hades Wont by one length in 31.12.The winner is trained in Longwood by Vincent Leavy for Enfield owner Barry Clancy.Selra Mike did the business in the second heat for his trainer Michael Connaughton and the Dublin Head On Syndicate. Having been led into the home straight by Mooreville Pride he took the lead on the run to the line to win by one and a half lengths in 30.44.In the third heat Home Peg and Points first led into the back straight where Fern Pat found top gear and went on to score by five lengths from the early leaders in 30.50. The winner is owned in Delvin by Miss Patricia O"Shaughnessy. Duncans Magpie broke in front in the fourth heat and made all the running under pressure form Hernaldo all the way to win by one length in 30.51 for her Mullingar owner Joe Gavin.In the 525 yds first race Body Warmer took control in the early stages and held pole position into the home straight where the chasing Knotty Buoy came in the last few strides to snatch victory by one and half lengths in 30.59. The winner was recording his first victory for his Enfield trainer Jacqueline Lawlor and the Limerick Barracks Syndicate.Granard owner Richard Dempsey supplied the winner of the 400 yds third race with Maguires Jack. After getting a flyer from traps he made all the running to score by five lengths from Castlemore Bill in 22.81.In the 525 yds fifth race Tickles took the lead in the early stages and gave a smashing front running display to power home seven lengths clear from Sherco Gold in 30.89. The winner was recording her first success on her debut outing for her Laois owner Edmond Cronin.Birr owner Enda O"Connell supplied the winner of the 400 yds seventh race with Endas Chieftain. This two to one winner broke in front and made every yard of the running to win by five lengths from Ambis Hannah in 22.47.Sulky Cindy broke in front in the 400 yds ninth race and led into the home straight where Pardini came in the last few strides to snatch victory by the shortest of margins in 22.47. This three to one winner is trained by Tommy Bolton for Limerick owner Sean Fitzgerald.Mullingar owner Thomas Colgan produced Miss Andrettie to take the 525 yds tenth race. This very well supported favourite broke in front and powered home a distance clear form Run on Helen in 30.41.The best return of the session was recorded in the 525 yds eleventh race by Son of Ross which is trained by Patrick Tormey for Mullingar owner James Finn. From a very fast start he held off the challenge of Home Bluebell to the last bend where he found top gear into the home straight to score by five lengths in 30.22.Treble for Trainer BoltonA wet and windy night at Mullingar Greyhound Stadium on Saturday January 24th made conditions disagreeable for punters who decided to remain in outside enclosure, however most retreated to the excellent facilities indoors. The racing conditions did not deter excellent racing, where trainer Tommy Bolton from Offaly had a treble in second, third and sixth races.Race one over 525 yds saw the Freano Syndicate (Bracklyn) owned Freano Lad came from a long way off the pace to score by three lengths from the early leader Keen Star in the time of 30.73.The Tommy Bolton trained Cahermore Tucks took the second race over 525 yds in the useful time of 30.06. Cahermore Tucks, owned by the trainers wife, Sheila Bolton broke well from trap five and made all the running to win by a comfortable four lengths from the Jacqueline Lawlor owned and trained Rubber Cheque.The second leg of Tommy Bolton"s treble came in the next race of the 400 yds sprint distance. Peppered Sprout, who has already won nine races, most of them over this course and distance, showed fine early pace to the first bend to take the lead from the Frances Cunningham (Ballymore) owned Daemon Eko. Daemon Eko rallied hard on the run to the line but was unable to overtake the early leader. The winner is owned by Tony Griffin in Co. Roscommon and the winning time was 22.10.In the fourth race over 525 yds, An Loiste Gorm, owned and trained by Eddie Dunne from Longford went to post a very hot favourite at 4/6. His supporters had no anxiety as he came away from traps well and ran out an easy winner from the Paddy McCormack trained Fahy Queen in the good time of 29.92.Beat the Bunch, owned in Galway by Thomas Walsh and trained by Jason Harris took the fifth race over the 400 yards course. This was a closely contested affair, the winner taking the spoils by one and a half lengths from the Noel Browne (Tullamore) owned Peacock Prince in 22.56.Tommy Bolton"s treble was completed in the sixth race over the 600 yds course. Cyberos, owned by the Thirteen-Angry-Men Syndicate from Co. Kerry ran very impressively to score by five lengths form the Frank Little (Fermanagh) owned Trasna Control. The time was 34.27.In the seventh race over the 400 yds course, Killeen Twilight, who had a string of consecutive wins at Mullingar last Summer, came right back to form to win by two lengths from the Dolores Ruth trained Coole Cousin Suzy in the excellent time of 21.81. The winner is trained by Frank Seery for youthful Castletown-Geoghegan owners Aoife and Ciara Corcoran.Charity Noble, owned by Justin Farrell from Mullingar and trained by local trainer Pat Tormey came back after a short layout to impressively take the eight race over 525 yds, The Paddy McCormack trained Wheezie or What and the Eddie Dunne trained Penthouse Lad led well in the early stages of race, however Charity Noble came with a tremendous run to take the honours on the line winning by a quarter of a length in 30.59.In the eight race over 525 yds the Frank Seery trained, Mendo cut out an early lead. Tahina Fox, owned by Jason Croarkin, Co. Fermanagh and trained by his wife Vera ran on very strongly to win by one lengths from the fast finishing Fearglass Nelly in a time of 30.38.Clonarrow Rocket established a long lead on the back straight in the tenth race over 525 yds.
