St Vincent de Paul "no dumping ground'
St Vincent de Paul depend on the generosity of the public for good quality clothing and furniture to run their thrift shop on Bishopsgate Street, Mullingar. However staff working in Ozanam House where the thrift shop is based, were disgusted last week when piles of rubbish including dirty and ragged clothing, along with broken and damaged furniture were dumped on their doorstep.Speaking to the Westmeath Examiner this week, Area Administrator for the Society, Ann Barry, who runs the shop, said the Society is always grateful to all those who have helped it in its appeals on a continuing basis but, the organisation cannot accept items that are unsuitable and are only fit for the dump.'We have had quite a few instances of bags being handed in or left outside our door, containing items either in a filthy condition or otherwise totally unusable, and suitable only for sending to the dump,' commented Ann.'This now means that we have to pay to send this items to the dump, and we want to make clear that we are not a dumping ground for old junk.'We regret having to draw attention to this and we trust we can still rely on the great majority of our patrons to continue to give us items suitable for display in our thrift shop,' she said.
