Thursday March 12th was a well attended meeting at Mullingar and featured all eight first round heats of the Gain Feeds Irish Cesarewitch 600 yds sweepstake.This classic sweepstake has a winners prize of €22,500 which is kindly sponsored by Gain Feeds Ltd.Oldcastle trainer John McGee supplied the winner of the first heat with Frisky Fantasy which he trains for Limerick joint owners Miss Aoife and Patrick Coffey. This well supported favourite broke in front and made every yard of the running to score by six lengths form Laughill Lad in the best return in the stake of 33.42.In the second heat Ardfert Ammo got the lead rounding the first bend and held off the challenge of Puckane Lady to the last bend. On the run to the line he found a bit extra to win by two and a half lengths from Tahina Sonic in 33.64. The winner is trained by Frances O"Donnell for Ardfert owners Adrian and Noel Clifford.Athlone owner Denis Hannon supplied the winner of the third heat with Springwell Dot. After breaking in front she resisted the challenge of Ardkill Nutter to the last bend where she selected an extra gear to score by three and a half lengths in 33.70.The odds on favourite in the fourth heat Slick Sioux did the business for her trainer Pat Buckley and English owner Keith Allsop. From a very fast break she build up a long lead in the back straight and held pole position into the home straight where the chasing Piladica reduced her lead to three and a quarter lengths at the line in 33.57.Now Your Gone broke in front in the fifth heat and led to the last bend where Last Bid took control into the home straight and went on to win by five and three quarter lengths from Marked Urgent in 33.48. This very well supported favourite is trained by Perry Aylward for Mooncoin owner Mrs Mary Aylward.From a level break in the sixth heat Springwell Hero led to the last bend where Home Belle took control on the inside into the home straight and held on to win by one and a quarter lengths form fast finishing Swinford Mylo in 33.95. The winner is trained in Mountmellick by Marcella Campbell for her husband Joe.Pat Curtin supplied the winner of the seventh heat with Urney Twins which he trains for Cavan owners Carleen and Kate O"Reilly. After breaking in front she made all the running to win by one and a half lengths from Cupids Risk in 33.76. In the eighth heat Top Louis and The Otaer Sonic got off to a great start and disputed the lead to the last bend. On the run to the line The Other Sonic found top gear to score by four and three quarter lengths from the early challenger in 33.64 for his Killenaule owner Matthew O"Donnell.Jagielka broke in front in the 525 yds third race and gave a smashing front running display to score by an extending six lengths form Asbo in 30.51. The winner was recording his first victory on his debut outing for his Kinnegad owner Darren Bannon.Rhode trainer Paddy McCormack supplied the winner of the 525 yds fifth race with King Kish which he trains for Carbury joint owners Martin O"Toole and Ms. Patricia Casey. Having been in arrears in the early stages he came from off the pace in the home straight to win by two and a half lengths from Coras Fire in 30.49.Lively Feet and Hades Wont broke in front in the 525 yds ninth race and made practically all the running but they were not able to deal with the strong finish of Rathmoyle Finod which came in the last few strides to snatch victory by the shortest of margins in 30.26. The winner is owned in Laois by John Fennelly.Royal Rockets Home in 29.61 on Saturday March 14thThere was a good turn out at Mullingar Greyhound Stadium on Saturday night last March 14th where the feature event on the eleven race programme was the two semi-finals of the Thomas McLoughlin unraced N2/N3 525. Kindly sponsored by Thomas McLoughlin and the G.O.B.A.Ciaras Boss which is owned in partnership by Michael Lynch and Seamus Quinn (Offaly) took the first semi-final in fine style when he made all the running to win by Six and a half lengths from Jimain Reward in 29.83.Royal Rocket owned by Oliver Bray (Meath) unbeaten throughout the stake made light work of the second semi-final when he coasted home by nine lengths from Glen con in 29.61.The Vera Croarkin Kennels recorded a double on the night with Tahina Speed and Dartrey Fantasy the first leg of the double came in the ninth race when Tahina Speed produced a successful front running display to win by one and three quarter lengths from Sandstorm Badger in 21.89.Dartrey Fantasy which is owned in Co. Monaghan by A.J. McPhillips completed the double in the tenth race. Having been led by Trim star and Springwell Edge in the early stages he took the lead down the home straight to win by three and a quarter lengths form Springwell Edge in 29.61The meeting opened with a 525 yds where the lightly race Crinkill Tom finished full of running to win by three quarters of a length from early leader Witness Box in 30.37. The winner is owned by Master Michael Milne (Birr).Rough Legend owned by Ms. Fiona Conlon (Kildare) was sent off the 2/1 favourite in the second race over the 525 yds trip. The March "06 was never headed as he made every yard of the running to win by a length and three quarters form Affane Legend in 29.90.Anna Horan"s (Kilkenny) stage Hoburn held on in a tight finish to take the third race over the 400 yds trip by three quarters of a length from Black Sash in 22.01.Springwell Ace owned by Denis Hannon (Athlone) cleared the field on the dash to the bend and with this well earned advantage she sprinted home to win by seven lengths from Weather Zone in a career best 21.74.Rusty George registered his third race win for his Meath owner Mrs Georgina Horan when he cleared the field at the first bend in the seventh to score by three and a quarter lengths from Artful Nelly in 31.64 over the 550 yards course.Gogetemlady and Coolemount Rita raced up front for most of the journey in the eight race over the 525 yds course.
