The Blizzards to be honoured
Meteor Music award-winners The Blizzards are to be granted the highest honour a town can afford its citizens when Mullingar Town Council hosts a Civic Reception for the band in the Market House Gallery on May 28.Chairman of the Town Council, Cllr. Mick Dollard said the five boys were much deserved of the honour because of their contribution to music and their role as ambassadors for Mullingar.'This is to honour the band for their contribution to music both nationally and internationally,' said Cllr. Dollard.'It is also to acknowledge what great ambassadors they have been for the town of Mullingar, following on the work that the late Joe Dolan began,' he said.The news comes as The Blizzards are announced to support Oasis at the sold-out Slane Castle concert this June, along with other major international bands like The Prodidgy, Kasabian and Glasvegas.They have also been confirmed to play the main stage at Europe"s favourite rock"n"roll weekend - Oxegen, joining Kings of Leon, The Killers, Snow Patrol and Blur.Formed in 2004, The Blizzards released their debut album A Public Display Of Affection which spawned the massive hit singles Fantasy and Trouble.Their second album Domino Effect was released in September of last year and has just gone platinum in Ireland.The Blizzards begin their English tour in June having already made a big impression at a WaterRats gig in London recently, which was followed by a top review in The Fly music magazine - no easy feat by any means!The boys plan to release Domino Effect in the UK on Island Records in Autumn 2009.
