"Confessions of an Irish Publican"
Des Keogh brings his latest play "Confessions of an Irish Publican" to the Mullingar Arts Centre as part of a nationwide tour on Saturday, May 30.This is a new comedy is based on the writings of John B. Keane which is adapted and performed by DesKeogh.A one-man show, Confessions of an Irish Publican follows on from the world-wide success of Des Keogh"s earlier Keane adaptation, 'The Love-Hungry Farmer', for which the actor received glowing reviews at home and abroad and a Best Actor award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Now Des has again mined the treasure-trove of material in John B."s celebrated 'Letters' and has come up with a show that has already been acclaimed by audiences and critics in New York.If laughter is the best medicine, then this show will prove to be a tonic in these troubled times, as while there was plenty of humour in The Love-Hungry Farmer there was also an underlying sadness in the principal character. Confessions of an Irish Publican however, is comedy all the way with Keogh bringing to life the colourful, eccentric characters of John B."s experience, in the rich, earthy language that was the hallmark of the great Irish playwright and humorist.Tickets are available from the Arts Centre box office on 044 9347777 or from reception on Mount Street, Mullingar.
