Rochfortbridge Round-up
Eight Irish dancers from Rochfortbridge have been selected to appear on TG4"s Irish Dance Contest after battling it out against hundreds of other acts to appear on the show.Elaine and Clare Geraghty, Frances Fallon, Ruth Gavin, Megan McKenna, Angela Bradley, Gemma Gorman and Helen McInerney are all part of the newly formed Kevin Lyster School of Irish Dancing.Kevin, who has taught St. Mary"s Rochfortbridge Scór for five years, was contacted by Adare Productions to enter an act for the upcoming talent contest, which will be screened in the Autumn, to battle it out against hundreds of other acts from all around the country.Tidy Towns 'Stream Clean'The Tidy Towns committee were delighted with the successful Stream Clean which took place last Wednesday.PRO for the group, Dave Raftis, said there were a few showers but the sun eventually came out to encourage all those were participating.'Some overhanging branches along the stream were lopped, but we were careful not to cut too many, as the birds where keeping an eye on us and after all it is their turf!' he said.'We also recovered some lovely granite stone which will be used in our rockeries and flowerbeds in the town.'Tremendous hard work was performed by the Capmark Volunteers who graciously gave their time to the project. They worked in two shifts, one in the morning the other in the afternoon and both were equally gruelling.'Dave has also extended a special thank you to the Environmental Awareness Officer W.C.C. Bernadette Ginnell for providing clean-up materials and a skip for the occasion, local candidate and businessman Vinnie Bagnall who provided free refreshments for all the volunteers, and Ian O"Flynn from the Westmeath Volunteer Centre who organised and also participated in the clean up.St. Brigid"s Hurling Club notesBaby NewsCongratulations to St. Brigid"s former Secretary Carol Faulkner and her husband Thomas Glennon on the recent birth of their first child. Baby Tara is also the first grandchild for proud grandparents Patricia and Jay Faulkner.Congratulations also to St. Brigid"s player, Jonathon Sheridan and his wife Karen on the birth of their first child, Shane.Sponsored CycleThe wheels are well in motion for the forthcoming cycle on Sunday, May 31 at 2pm.There will be a special unveiling of a plaque in Dalystown commemorating the 125 years of GAA after the cycle at approximately 6 o"clock. The club would be delighted to see past and present hurlers at this unveiling. Weather permitting there will be a barbecue and music outside for all the hungry cyclists and friends.Leinster LeagueSt. Brigid"s last game in this competition was postponed and is now pencilled in for Tuesday, May 26. All the college players will back for this one, rearing to go with all their exams out of the way.Second round championshipSt. Brigid"s vs St. Oliver Plunketts second round championship game will take place on Sunday, May 31 in Castletown Geoghegan at 1pm.Under 12Congratulations to the under 12 team who were victorious over Crookedwood last week - keep up the good work! Training for underage continues every Monday evening at 6pm for under 8s, and 7.15pm for under 12s
