St Etchen"s take 2nd in Regional School Warden competitionSt Etchen"s Kinnegad hosted the regional finals for school warden teams this week and their own team came away with second place. Eight teams took part in the finals from all across the midlands and in a hard fought competition St Etchen"s emerged in second place behind Boyle by the narrowest of margins. Well done to the team of Sarah Wiley (capt), Kelly O"Mahony, Aoife Cleary, Shannon Byrne, Danielle Kiernan and Emma O"Neill assisted by Ms Colette Boardman and Garda Barry Rogers.National Pride of Place CompetitionKinnegad will be representing Westmeath in the National Pride of Place Competition for the second time in two years with judging due to take place on the 3rd July at 2.30 in St Etchen"s School Hall in Kinnegad. It will take place on the bank holiday Monday the 3rd of August at 3 pm. Enquiries at the GAA pavilion.New website for the unemployedThere was a new website for the unemployed launched last week called www.halfaloaf.ie and is the brain child of Killucan man Tom O"Mahoney. It is a new website dedicated to the unemployed featuring an information forum to launch your opinions, a sell or swap section as well as a bartering facility. You can also locate events in your area that are low cost or in some cases no cost. All new members for the first 3 months are entered in a draw for a €50 Centra voucher.Royal Canal Weekend of ActivityThe Royal Canal Amenity Group take to the water again this year on this weekend the 19th to the 21st of June from Enfield to Nead"s Bridge. They boats will arrive in Thomastown at 4 pm on Saturday to music by Enda Cassidy, bouncing castles, face painting and then music that night in Nanny Quinn"s. On Sunday they will move to Cunningham"s for tea and coffee after 11 am and they will then go to Nead"s Bridge and Mary Lynch"s for music from 4 pm by Westmeath Junior Fleadh finalists as well as local traditional musicians. Awards will also be presented at this time. Everyone is invited to these events or indeed anywhere the boats stop over the weekend. They have their oars crossed for a fine weekend. It was a hugely successful day for Kinnegad/Coralstown Community Games with a total of 39 competitors representing Kinnegad/Coralstown in the track events. 24 representatives from our area will now go forward to the National Finals in Athlone in August. Although no longer involved in competitive games, this team and coaches - Gerry and Raj, have been playing and practising rounders due to an increased interest in the game. Keep up the great work boys.
