Rochfortbridge runner in Wales

Jake Byrne from Rochfortbridge was selected to be part of the Athletics Ireland team that competed in the Celtic Games in Carmarthen, Wales last weekend.He was running in the 3000m U18 Men's race for Mullingar Harriers.The competition is a points based team event and Athletics Ireland had very successful year in 2008 winning two Trophies out of four. In all, there were over 31 clubs represented from 19 counties in the team.The teams competing in the games were Scotland, Wales, Ulster and Athletics Ireland. The competition took on a new format this year, with the introduction of an Under 16 mixed relay and events divided between boys and girls.The team travelled on Thursday, July 30 and competed on Saturday, August 1. The young talented athletes were well supported with many parents travelling over for the Games.Athletics Ireland will have the honour of hosting the Celtic Track and Field Games in 2010.Official opening of Tyrrellspass Country MarketThe official opening of Tyrrellspass Country Market took place on Friday last in St. Patrick's, Hall.Country singer Robert Mizzell did the honours of cutting the ribbon and performed a mini-concert to the large crowd that turned out on the morning, despite the rain!Elizabeth Redding of Tyrrellspass Country Market said she was delighted with huge show of support the opening received:"It was great to see such a big turnout, and there were plenty of new faces there too, so now they know where we are!"The Tyrrellspass Country Market is open every Friday morning from 9am until midday, selling a wide selection of fresh farm, garden and home produce and handcrafts.Annual pilgrimage to KnockThe annual Meath Diocese Pilgrimage to Knock takes place on Sunday, August 9.A coach will depart from Milltownpass at 9.30am and Rochfortbridge at 9.45am.This is one of the largest pilgrimages to Knock so far this year and everyone is welcome to come along.Seats for the coach can be booked from the local organiser on 086 2571645 or 044 9223133.
