Curran secures the Mileage Tyres Hamper
The Mileage Tyres men's Christmas hampers concluded on Sunday last in fabulous weather conditions and produced some smashing scores from all the prize winners as can be seen below.The leader after the first round, Patrick Curran, added a neat thirty four points to his first round score to amass a winning seventy six points, to win narrowly from Eamon Shaw, who returned a steady thirty eight to total seventy five points. Third spot went to the ever consistent Sean Nulty with seventy three points; while the best gross score of the competition was returned by Ted Eighan.The seniors' competition was won by Frank McGinty and the weekly prizes were won by Brian Daly and Chris Geraghty with superb scores of forty and forty three points, respectively. Thirty members travelled on the day. The Tuesday competitions continue for the remainder of the season.Expert Men's singlesA new event on the calendar, the Expert singles takes place on Sunday week next October 18th, the BRS booking for which is open today. This event was originally fixed for the end of August, but due to weather conditions had to be rescheduled.Ladies BranchMoira wins Temple Spa CompetitionTemple Spa was the generous sponsors of last week's 18 holes singles. Moira O'Brien came home with a fantastic score of 38 points to be the clear winner. The popular winner cemented her excellent play with a birdie on the 15th and managed to hold her nerve to the finish. Breda Hawkshaw and Noirin Abbott both returned 37's with Breda's deemed marginally better on the count back. Mary McCauley was tops in the gross department with 24 points. Emma Woodhouse did the business in the junior category with 26 points.Temple Spa Results1st Moira O'Brien (29) 38 points; 2nd Breda Hawkshaw (25) 37 points; Gross Mary McCauley (12) 24 points; 3rd Noirin Abbott (31) 37 points; Junior Emma Woodhouse 26 points.Golfer of the Year.Hats off to Siobhan O'Donnell Murphy who capped her outstanding year by securing the title of Golfer of the Year. This competition went down to the wire with Siobhan's nearest rival Marjorie Donoghue needing to win the final event to have any chance of overhauling the point's margin. In the end Siobhan won by nine points with an accumulative score of 42 points from Marjorie who scored 33 points. Joan Heery was one point further back on 32 to take third place in the order of merit.Lancome girls do us proud.Catherine McDonnell and Anne Duffy spent the weekend in Killarney at the Lancome Finals having qualified at the regional event held in Mullingar earlier in the year. This foursomes competition is one of the most popular national events on the ladies calendar as qualifiers get treated to a fantastic weekend of competition and craic in Killarney. No strangers to a bit of fun and golf with a competitive edge, Anne and Catherine combined magnificently to shoot 40 points taking the runners-up position. Nice one girls!
