Nomad bring McGuinness classic to town
One of the greatest plays of recent years, "Observe the Sons of Ulster Marching Towards the Somme" is probably one of the best-known works of playwright Frank McGuinness.A story of young men from Ulster - from its farms, factories, townlands and towns - who left to follow the dream of freedom, and found themselves fighting in The Somme. The play, which is coming to Mullingar's Arts Centre on November 13/14, examines the young men's rivalries and their companiosnhips; their preferences, their memories their music, as they talk about their loves, their fears, their hopes their dreams. Each man "moves to the beat of his own drum" - and yet they're all in the same cauldron, the night before the Battle of the Somme.A work that is sharp, utterly modern and unforgettable, the play is being performed by Nomad in association with the Livin' Dred Theatre Company. For an emotional and intellectual journey that is at once thought-provoking and inspiring, contact the Arts Centre now to book tickets, on 9347777.
