Catch some blues/rock with The Deans
Described as a cross between Rory Gallagher and an early Johnny Winter, The Deans are an original three-piece blues/country/folk band hailing from the West of Ireland.Developing their own distinctive progressive rock style, especially notable for its spontaneity and rawness, The Deans visit The Stables this coming Friday, January 22.Their repertoire of mostly original material ranges from exciting blues/rock through to melodic ballads.Gavin Dean plays guitar, harmonica and lead vocals and writes the band's material, while his brother Gary plays bass guitar and vocals, with Gary Keon is on drums and vocals. There is a unique companionship between the three, creating a chemistry and telepathy which lends itself to making their live show one of the most exciting anywhere. In their three year existence, The Deans have worked with some of rock's best known guitar legends, including Woodstock veteran, Henry McCullough (Joe Cocker and The Grease Band, Paul McCartney's Wings), Eric Bell (Thin Lizzy), Johnny Fean (Horslips) also Irish traditional musicians, Sharon Shannon and Liam O'Maonlaí (Hothouse Flowers). In 2008 The Deans released their debut album, simply called 'The Album', consisting of 12 original tracks, which was met with much critical acclaim, and continues to receive plenty of air play on Irish radio. Sales were very good, especially at venues on their European tours, of which there were five in total last year, playing thirty-five shows in seven countries in the space of six weeks on their most recent tour. One year after the release of 'The Album', The Deans have now brought out a new EP with the title 'Distraction'. The six original tracks are a mix of the emerging, distinctive sound which makes The Deans' music very unique and special. The songs are already becoming firm favourites with audiences and have received rave responses from critics both in Ireland and across Europe. The Deans were the only Irish band to perform at the prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival on the July 4, (see http://www.euronews.net/2009/07/07/montreaux-jazz-festival-opens/), and also in July they played two shows with the legendary Godfather of British Blues, John Mayall, in The Academy in Dublin and proved to be hugely popular with the musically-discerning audience. This is your chance to catch The Deans live in Mullingar this Friday - don't miss it!
