The Westmeath Examiner is delighted to announce that the Mullingar Park Hotel is to continue their partnership deal in the promotion of sporting excellence in the county. Last month's Awards presentation saw almost 400 present in the magnificently appointed Mullingar Park Hotel,While the weather was quite unkind in the opening weeks of 2010 leading to some restrictions in sporting activity, one young man produced an outstanding piece of individual school to propel his team to an historic victory. Aonghus Clarke, an award winner in 2008, scored 0-10 as his side, Westmeath Schools scored a first ever victory in the Leinster Colleges Senior Hurling 'A' Championship when defeating Dublin South.
Aonghus' award in 2008 also centred on his hurling prowess as he led Castletown-Geoghegan to victory in the National Feile na nGael finals. The outstanding work which has been undertaken by the members of Kilbeggan Pitch and Putt Club came to frutition last month when it was acclaimed as the Irish Pitch and Putt Club of the Year for 2009. The club has been recognised, not alone for his course and clubhouse, but also for the quality of the players coming through the ranks at the south Westmeath venue.
At both juvenile and adult level, Kilbeggan players have excelled in both provincial and national competitons, with Aoife Carton capturing the National Junior Ladies Strokeplay in Glenville. Next August, the club will reach another milestone when it plays host to the National Inter County and Strokeplay, one of the major event on the pitch and putt calendar.
Aonghus and Kilbeggan Pitch and Putt Club are congratulated on their wonderful achievements. They will be formally presented with their awards at a Gala Awards Night to be held in the Mullingar Park Hotel next February.
