Swimmers Shine at County Finals
We cannot thank enough, the team of workers who volunteered to act as starter, assemblers and recorders who ran a very successful County Swimming Finals on Sunday last in Athlone Pool, Competition was of the highest standard and we congratulate all the boys and girls on their performances.We wish the county winners continued success when they take on the best in the country at the National Finals in August and in the meantime, we would ask all qualifiers to send in a copy of their birth/baptismal certificate plus the fee of €25 as soon as possible. We at county level must collect this fee and send direct to the National Headquarters before any competitor can take part in the finals, we would greatly appreciate it, if you could get it in to us immediately.Summer Team Games FinalsThe Summer Team Games are now coming to the county final stages and we would appeal to all team managers left in the competitions to contact their opponents now and arrange an evening suitable, (within the set dates), to both and then contact the county committee who will arrange venue and officials. All finals must be played on or before May 7th.As we go to press the Under-10 Gaelic football zone finals are as follows: Zone 1, Tubberclair/Glasson v Mt. Temple/Baylin. Community GamesAnother great success for our girls rounders team who won another county title defeating Killucan in a very exciting and competitive game. Our boys team also had a great win and are now in the final where they will meet Coralstown/Kinnegad. Best of luck to our team and trainers who have done a brilliant job with both teams. Our art and model competitors also had great success with Jonathan Nally winning gold in under-14 model making, Rachel Halligan gold in under-12 art, and Sarah Murtagh came fourth in under-10 model making.Our swimming and soccer teams were also in action over the week and were unfortunate not to progress this time round. A big thanks to all the children and trainers for making such a effort and giving of their time.Our Annual MEM Community Games sports day will be held in Milltown G.A.A. pitch on Saturday, May 8th at 5.30p.m. Hope to see everyone there!
