Mullingar's new currency near launch
Through various fundraising efforts the Mullingar Marketing team originally started by Mullingar Chamber of Commerce will have a pot of around â¬15 to â¬16k to be used solely to market Mullingar, its tourism and its retail."Part of the money available is thanks to match funding from Fáilte Ireland to help promote Mullingar's Festival of Festivals," said John Humphries of Mullingar Chamber. This series of events will be unique to Mullingar and will consist of six to eight weekends, which are planned to attract lots of visitors to the Mullingar area to stay and shop and have fun while attending the festivals.Part of this is the new Mullingar currency, otherwise known as the Gar."We also have the Gar ready to launch in the next few weeks - this is also unique to Mullingar and has already attracted national coverage on the Hector show, and will offer a 10% discount in participating retailers. We are also working on a parking vouchers scheme along with the county council as well as street festivals and free parking zones in selected areas," explained John.Following a series of successful meetings, Mullingar Marketing team has now met most retailers to outline plans for the coming months. The retailers who attended the meeting have all expressed their interest in being involved in the union the Marketing Team are trying to achieve. This Saturday in The Greville Arms Hotel at 9am is the final retail information forum for the Marketing team and is open to all retailers. If you have missed the road show, then now is the time to come and ask questions and get involved. Don't be left on the bench for this one, be a part of something great for the town.Shop local, buy local, keep jobs local!
