Little school gives taoiseach big welcome

Megan McClean loves going to Castlepollard Parochial School. She finds maths difficult and Irish is her favourite subject. On Thursday, Megan had the opportunity to put a personal case for the future of small schools to the taoiseach."I enjoy going to this school because our teacher/pupil ratio is small and we have equal opportunities," Megan told Enda Kenny, when he visited Castlepollard on May 17."I find maths difficult but in my maths test yesterday I got 84%, which is above average. I want to stay above average. If our school was to close I would have to go to another school and my results might go down because of the high numbers in the classrooms of a new school," said Megan. The taoiseach was greeted in Castlepollard by every member of the small school's children: that's 29 high fives, which each child readily jumped up to receive. Each child had prepared a letter about the school, which principal Wendy Gillespie presented to Mr Kenny.Megan was asked to read from her letter and also Rose Grimes read out her letter."I told the taoiseach that we may be a small school but we are 133 years old. I also told him that I love my school and I love maths and homework," said Rose.
