Tom Dunne's search for Ireland's best unsigned singer-songwriter is over!
After hours of listening through CDs, MP3s and even cassette tapes, Newstalk's Tom Dunne has found Ireland's best unsigned singer songwriter.Ross Breen's Monet came top of the thousands of entries that the Newstalk presenter received. Breen from Leixlip wins a day's recording in Windmill Lane, billing at Indie-pendence Music Festival and an opening slot at a Cathy Davey gig.Tom Dunne started the competition after interviewing U2 Manager Paul McGuinness on his Newstalk show. McGuinness pointed out that the next big act is "down the road from us, writing a song tonight that is going to make them huge". The next week the competition was born."I was blown away by both the standard of entries and the amount of people that are writing songs right now. Ireland's future is bright," Tom Dunne said.Tom Dunne's judging panel who, together with Tom decided on the winner, consisted of A+R consultant Thomas Black, Steve Wall of the Walls and the Stunning, and Indie-pendence Festival organiser Shane Dunne.Ross BreenRoss Breen started writing poetry as a child, and when he was given a Christmas gift of an electric guitar at age 11 he started putting his poetry to music.The winning song Monet was written after a school trip to the National Museum.Ross's song is available to hear on www.newstalk.ieRoss wins:Billing at Indie-pendence Music and Arts Festival, Mitchelstown, August 3-5.
