Combines 4 Charity world record attempt

Combines 4 Charity has announced that the world record attempt will go ahead this Saturday July 28 2012 in Duleek, County Meath.With a few days to go, more than 250 combines have registered, the crop is ripe for harvesting and the committee and community are working round the clock to prepare for the arrival of the world's largest collection of combine harvesters and thousands of spectators.The record breaking attempt will be the highlight of the day and there will be plenty of activities for adults, children and families including Agri Aware's mobile farm, tractor pulling, tug-o-war, food stalls, trade stands, Macra na Feirme activities, a large screen to watch the Meath v Laois senior football championship match and of course, the largest collection of combine harvesters in the world on display.Gates will open from 10am. Tickets at the gate for €10 (children free). Free parking will be provided in the adjoining field, with disabled parking facilities also available. Spectators are advised to wear wellies and bring sunscreen.Combines 4 Charity first came together in 2009, and set a world record that summer when they assembled 175 working harvesters for a spectacle that attracted close to 20,000 spectators. The charity event was hugely successful as Combines 4 Charity raised a whopping €300,000 for four charities - Barnardos, Self Help Africa, The National Rehabilitation Trust and the Gary Kelly Cancer Support Centre.Their record was overtaken a year later by a Canadian farming group who brought together over 200 working combines. Now however Combines 4 Charity are well on course to set a new world record with more than 250 combine owners recruited from almost every county of Ireland, as well as great interest from Northern Ireland and the UK.
