Westmeath drawn against Carlow in opening Leinster SFC tie

Paul HughesWestmeath have been drawn against Carlow in the preliminary round of the 2013 Leinster senior football championship, the winner of which will face a daunting assignment against Dublin in the quarter-finals.The draw, which took place in the last hour, means that should Pat Flanagan's charges get past the Barrowsiders and pull off a victory over Dublin, they would face either Kildare or Offaly (managed by Kinnegad's Emmet McDonnell) in the semi-finals.Meanwhile, the Westmeath senior hurlers under Brian Hanley - whose tenure as Lake County boss was extended by the county board last night - have been drawn against Antrim in the preliminary round of the Leinster senior hurling championship for the second year in a row.Should they repeat their memorable win over the Saffrons earlier this year, the maroons will face either London or Carlow in the quarter-finals, the winners of which will meet Leinster champions Galway in the semis.2013 Leinster SFCFirst Round: Wicklow v Longford; Laois v Louth; Westmeath v Carlow.Quarter-finals: Dublin v Westmeath or Carlow; Kildare v Offaly; Meath v Wicklow or Longford; Wexford v Laois or Louth.Semi-finals: Meath or Wicklow or Longford v Wexford or Laois or Louth, Dublin or Westmeath or Carlow v Kildare or Offaly.2013 Leinster SHCPreliminary round: Antrim v Westmeath.Round 1: Antrim v Westmeath v Laois; Carlow v London.Quarter-finals: Antrim/Westmeath/Laois v Carlow/London; Offaly v Kilkenny; Wexford v Dublin.Semi-finals: Galway v Antrim/Westmeath/Laois/Carlow/London; Offaly/Kilkenny v Wexford/Dublin.
