Mullingar meeting on Household Charge

Local campaigners against the Household Charge are hosting a meeting in Mullingar this week to update non-payers on national developments in the campaign against the tax.The meeting is in the Newbury Hotel, Green Bridge, at 8pm on Thursday November 8. Cllr Cieran Perry, an independent member of Dublin City Council, who is also a delegate to the National Steering Committee of Campaign Against Household and Water Taxes CAHWT will outline the plans of the campaign in the face of letters from councils demanding payment and the recent issuing of summons against some non-payers.Cllr Perry said: "Despite all of the government's threats and bullying, it is clear that almost 10 months after the introduction of this tax, mass non-payment continues."Regardless of the government's spinning of figures, the answers to Dáil questions indicate that only 1.04 million households out of 1.8 million have registered, which is 57%, and over 50% of single home owners have still not registered."The CAHWT announced last week that is "fully prepared to legally defend householders" and will be organising "massive protests" at court cases, aimed at making it "politically impossible for the government to continue with their strategy" of trying to impose the household and property taxes.CAHWT activist Mags Glennon said: "We have been contacted by activists in Athlone, Edenderry and other parts of the midlands who will be attending the meeting on Thursday. All who are interested are welcome to attend, spread the non-payment message in their communities and help organise events locally to show we will not be intimidated or bullied into paying this unjust austerity tax."Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/NoHouseholdTaxTwitter: https://twitter.com/NoHouseholdTaxWebpage: http://nohouseholdtax.org/Email: Contact@nohouseholdtax.org
