Camogie: Westmeath Examiner Camogie All-Stars 2012
Cast your vote for first positions in team of the year.Westmeath Camogie All-Stars: goalkeepers and fullbacksThis week marks the official launch of the Westmeath Examiner's latest initiative in partnership with Westmeath's Camogie Board - the search for the county's team of the year. Following on from our first year of sponsoring Westmeath's premier camogie competition, we're asking all camogie supporters to vote for their choices as to who should make up Westmeath camogie's dream team for 2012. Over the coming weeks, our team of judges - who have had their eyes fixed on club camogie competition in Westmeath since April - will publish their shortlist of top choices in various positions: goalkeepers (our top three), full backs (9), half backs (9), midfielders (6), half forwards (9) and full forwards (9). Then it will be up to you- camogie supporters, and members of the public - to vote for your top choices by text message. Before the end of the year, the top 15 will be revealed, and will be recognised and rewarded as the inaugural Westmeath Examiner Camogie All-stars. We will also be announcing the identity of our player and young player of the year, which will be decided by our judging panel. Voting for the All-stars selection is open to everyone, but members and supporters of camogie clubs around the county are especially encouraged to have their say on who should occupy the various positions. The first shortlistThis week, we're getting the ball rolling with our panel's nominations for the county's top goalkeepers and full backs, and your top choices will occupy the back four positions in our team of the year. Defeated finalists Lough Lene Gaels and Mullingar side Cullion lead the way so far with three nominations, followed by Raharney, St Munna's (two apiece), Clonkill and Castletown-Geoghegan (one each). To vote for your choice(s), simply text the relevant code (CAMOGIE followed by the correct number) to 57199. Next week, we will list our chosen half backs and midfielders, with the forwards listed in the edition after that. Each week, text lines will remain open, allowing you to vote as many times as you like. Watch out for next week's edition of the Westmeath Examiner, and on Facebook for updates. The nominees shortlisted for the goalkeeper position are:1.
