Ulster Bank not budging on 'Pollard closure
Ulster Bank have resisted an attempt by locals to get it to reverse its decision to close its branch in Castlepollard.
A delegation from the town met with bank officials twice in recent months to try and persuade it to keep the branch open beyond the scheduled closure date of the beginning of May.
Speaking to the Examiner, auctioneer Pat Davitt, who was part of the delegation that met with the bank, said that despite the strong argument put forward by the group, officials were insistent that the unpopular closure of the bank will go ahead.
Mr Davitt said that the group has held talks with a number of "interested parties" regarding the issue of banking in the town and is holding a public meeting in Hotel Castlepollard on Tuesday to discuss with the community what their next plan of action should be.
The meeting starts at 8pm.
