School exams to kick off this week

Just under 1400 students are due to begin sitting the Leaving Certificate in Westmeath on Wednesday, with just slightly fewer than that to sit the Junior Certificate.

According to the State Exams Commission, 690 girls and 709 boys – a total of 1,398 – are sitting the Leaving Cert; and for the Junior Cert, the figures are 661 girls and 717 boys – a total of 1,378.

The written exam papers are to be published online on the evening that the exam is completed, and for Leaving Certs, there will then be a wait until Wednesday August 14 for the release of results, and for Junior Certs, until mid September.

The exams will be completed by Friday June 21.

The cost to students of sitting the Leaving Certificate is €116, while the Junior Certificate fee is €109.  Repeat Leaving Certs pay €301.
