Castletown Geoghegan 'big house' has new owners
Westmeath's finest 'big house', Jamestown Court in Castletown Geoghegan, has a new owner.
Built in the 18th century by the Geoghegan family who gave their name to the nearby town, Jamestown Court had been on the market for a number of years during which time the asking price fell significantly from €7.5m in 2007 to €2.85m four years later.
When contacted by the Westmeath Examiner this week, the Mullingar estate agents that handled the sale, Sherry Fitzgerald Davitt and Davitt, declined to reveal what the sale price was.
Davitt and Davitt also refused to reveal the identity of the country house's new owner, however it is rumoured in Mullingar that it was purchased by a well known local businessman.
The seven-bedroom property comes with 62 acres, beautiful formal gardens and a guest lodge. It has also been the subject of extensive restoration and refurbishment work in the last decade.
