A good weather crackdown
With the mercury expected to maintain an upward curve throughout the week, gardaí in Mullingar will be keeping an extra close eye on lakeshore amenities in the light of recent incidents of public disorder, drunkenness and even dumping.
“We will have additional manpower about at all lakeshore facilities across north Westmeath to counter any anti social behaviour,” Sgt Kieran Williams told the Westmeath Examiner this week.
“We are aware there have been some issues, at both the local lakes and along the banks of the Royal Canal and an operation is in place to counter this.
"The public order legislation will be fully enforced,” stressed Sgt Williams, with the gardaí likely to invoke their powers of seizure of alcohol where such is merited.
