Celtic Blondes adopt the life of a homeless person for charity
The Celtic Blondes, aka Tyrrellspass sisters Daisy and Rose Carey, are adopting the life of a homeless person for a night to raise funds for Midlands Simon.
The event is taking place at Kilmartin Service Station in Athlone from 9pm to 9am the following morning.
They decided to get involved in raising awareness about the Simon Community following the death of a homeless man in Bray from hypothermia.
“We’ll be sleeping on cardboard on cement,” explains Rose and “try to raise as much awareness as possible. Anybody can throw €2 into a hat, but if they know that’s what you’re doing it for, they might have more of an understanding of what it is to be homeless because I do think there are stereotypes attached to it.
"Anyone can become homeless in life, you can just simply be out of pocket.” There will be fifteen people participating in the sleep out event.
“We’re really looking forward to it,” adds Daisy. “It’s going to be an eye-opener for us because we all take that going down and putting on your pyjamas and hopping into bed for granted. We all complain about bed time and we don’t want to go but there’s people out there who would give an arm and a leg for that.”
“If you’re homeless in city, like say Dublin, where there’s a lot of asphalt then lying on the ground these nights in the heat is probably just as bad as lying on the ground when it’s freezing,” continues Rose.
If you see Daisy and Rose, and their fifteen friends, make sure to give a donation!
