Westmeath ladies to face Donegal as RefCam gets first outing

By Kieran Galvin

The Westmeath ladies have been drawn against Donegal in the TG4 Ladies Senior Football Championship Round 1 Qualifiers.

Westmeath and Donegal will be the first counties in action when they meet at Páirc Seán MacDiarmada in Carrick on Shannon at 2:30 pm on Saturday, July 27th. That match will then be followed by the meeting of Clare and Kildare at the same venue at 4:15pm. In the event of a draw in either game extra time will be played.

Interestingly, the clash between Westmeath and Donegal will be the first time that ‘RefCam’ will be used.

RefCam has been introduced to Ladies Football for the 2013 season, the equipment consists of a head mounted camera which is attached to a lightweight neoprone vest which is worn under the standard referees jersey. The feed is then available to the TG4 production team who will use it when suitable.

Westmeath were defeated by Meath in the Leinster championship (on a scoreline of 2-12 to 1-9) - and Martin Flanagan's charges are now hoping to make progress through the qualifiers.

The draw for the TG4 Ladies Senior Football Championship Round 2 qualifiers will take place live on TG4 after the Clare versus Kildare Round 1 qualifier on July 27.

The 40th Ladies Senior All Ireland Final which will take place at Croke Park on September 29.
