Ginnell Living History Festival
With just a few days to go it's systems full on as the organising committee of the Ginnell Living History Festival put the finishing touches to what promises to be a wonderful trip down memory lane.
The amount of goodwill and encouragement has made sure that no stone has been left unturned to make sure this is a day to be remembered for all who lived in Ginnell Terrace, Assumption Villas and Springfield.
The day to remember is Saturday August 17 and here are the run of proceedings.
2.30pm approx – procession from St Paul’s Church to the statue in Ginnell
3pm – music in the grounds of Mullingar Shamrocks
3.30pm approx – blessing ceremony at the statue, laying of candles in remembrance of those who have died, unveiling of commemorative plaque
4.15pm – music continues at the Shamrocks clubhouse with the original residents as guests of honour (food provided)
Fun and games for the children – face painting, clown, dance instruction, football coaching; afternoon festivities continue until 6pm
9.30pm, St Loman’s GAA Club host the reunion Hop; everyone is welcome to go along and share their experiences of living in the area, to the songs that they remember from their time growing up
Candles are available from Micheál Hyland and will be available on the day. Anyone who wishes to lend a hand will be more than welcome in the build up to the day and the day itself.
