The Bakery restaurant closure 'part of relocation plan'

The closure of The Bakery on Mullingar’s Dominick Street isn’t permanent, say the owners, husband and wife team Bobby O’Reilly and Daiva Stanionyte.
“We are reopening in a matter of weeks, in new premises,” said Bobby in the wake of Saturday’s closure of the popular eatery, which came as a shock to customers.
While disappointed to be leaving the spot where the burgeoning catering empire started, the two are, nonetheless, armed with big plans for their new location, although they aren’t yet disclosing publicly where that is until the final legal negotiations have been completed.
It’s three years ago since The Bakery opened at Dominick Street.  Since then, it has opened other branches at Harbour Place in Mullingar; and in the centre of Tullamore, an eatery called BK2.  Its most recently launched café is a second BK2, opened in Bentley’s of Eyre Square in Galway during Race Week.
Along with that, the baking is now carried out at a unit at Clonnmore Business Park.
The relocation in Mullingar is, however, good news - despite the disappointment that regular customers may feel at seeing the doors of Dominick Street closed, says Bobby.
“We will be taking on more staff when we relocate to our new premises,” Bobby says.
While there will be some short term lay-offs until the new restaurant is up and running, “90 per cent” of the staff at Dominick Street will be moving to The Bakery’s other outlets.
In the meantime, it’s business as usual at those outlets, and fans of the confectionery and coffee served at The Bakery can still enjoy these in Harbour Place.
