Ardan Wood seed collection day, Saturday October 26

If you would you like to play a part in ensuring the future of native woodlands, go come along to Ardan Wood on October 26 (11am-2pm) to help collect native tree seeds. These seeds will then be grown and planted back on Native Woodland Trust reserves.

The Native Woodland Trust is an environmental charity dedicated to the protection of Ireland’s rare native and ancient woodland. It achieves this by setting up woodland reserves around the country, such as Ardan Wood. This reserves network allows the trust to protect existing woodland as well as plant new native woodland.

As part its work the trust runs volunteer days on its reserves to encourage the people to get involved in their woodland reserves.

Ardan Wood is a beautiful mature broadleaf woodland made up of a mix of native trees such as oak, ash, hazel, holly, blackthorn, hawthorn and spindle as well as many more.

This autumn the Native Woodland Trust will be collecting seeds such as acorns, hazel nuts, haws and sloes, which will become the next generation of native trees.

The volunteer day is suitable for all the family and is the perfect opportunity to explore a beautiful woodland.

The meeting time is 10.55am at Tyrrellspass Castle car park (see nativewoodlandtrust.ie) or the events section of the Native Woodland Trust Facebook page. The walk will run from 11am to 2pm and all are welcome. For more details please contact Kirsty at kirsty.daly@nativewoodlandtrust.ie or on 087 9619083.
