Beehive Days hand cheque over to LARCC

Gillian Nash, one of the organisers of a Beehive reunion, got the idea while watching a TV show about 80s music, and as this is the year of the Gathering, she set up Beehive Days. John Donlon joined the Facebook page and offered to run the event if Gillian didn’t have the time – and so it was agreed – Beehive Days was going to happen!

John went about contacting one of the original DJs from the Beehive Days, Kevin Matthews, who was delighted to play at the event. John booked The Greville Arms Hotel to host the night and the work of printing posters and tickets and promoting the event began. The Facebook page was the tool John and Gillian used to engage with people about their favourite songs and to advertise ticket sales. Someone suggested having a supper on the night, as suppers were always available at the Beehive, and that was arranged with the Greville.

The whole event gained great momentum, buses ran from various towns and villages and more than 300 people turned up at the Greville on Friday November 22 to enjoy some nostalgia – some were well dressed for the occasion too!

Last week, the organisers presented LARCC Cancer Support Centre with a cheque for €2,399.77, the proceeds from the night after expenses. LARCC thanks everyone involved for their donation and congratulates them on a wonderful idea.

Word on the street is that everyone had a really great night’s entertainment.

Also, thank you to the Spice Girls who sold the tickets on the night – Maisie, Mags, the two Marys and Olive.
