Leinster rugby silverware comes to town
Mullingar is playing host to three impressive pieces of rugby silverware today (Wednesday) and Thursday as Leinster Schools Development officials visited schools in the town.
As the drive to promote the game gains further momentum in the province, they brought with them the RaboDirect Cup, the Amlin trophy and the British and Irish cup, all of which Leinster captured last year.
Dave Farrelly and Daragh McGinley, who work with the Leinster Schools Development team, spent much of Wednesday and Thursday visiting schools in the town, which has enjoyed a high rugby profile in recent years, with the likes of Niall Breslin, Mark Flanagan and Con Gilsenan all donning the coveted blue jersey.
The visit comes ahead of Leinster’s vital Heineken Cup clash against French kingpins, Castres on Sunday next, January 12 at 1.45pm.
