Council monitoring HGV traffic on Rochfortbridge to Mullingar road
The council is monitoring traffic on the R400 Rochfortbridge to Mullingar road to the N52, Cllr Colm Arthur was informed at the last Kilbeggan Area meeting.
The Fine Gael man had requested that lorries be diverted from the route in question and the Castlelost to Dalystown road as they “are not capable of withstanding the constant lorry traffic”.
Responding to his question, the council said it had concluded that a “significant proportion of the large trucks using the R400 are generated by a single operator”.
“It was decided that the council should liaise with this operator with a view to having this truck traffic utilise the realigned N52 via Tyrrellspass. Following receipt of undertakings given to the council, this issue is currently being monitored and it is proposed to undertake a traffic survey to determine current heavy trucks traffic on this route.”
• The Tyrrellspass Development Association’s hunt for a new work shop continues after the council declined a request to use the pump house on the old Mullingar Road.
Responding to Cllr Colm Arthur at the Kilbeggan Area meeting, the council said that the property is currently in use by the local authority for storage and is not available for letting at this time.
