North Westmeath wants Rose hopefuls
“When push comes to shove you can always do a bit of Irish dancing,” says Avril Fagan about choosing a talent for the North Westmeath Rose competition in March.
Hotel Castlepollard is the competition venue and neither Avril nor her twin sister Nicola – both talented camogie players with Lough Lene Gaels – believe there would be enough space in there to demonstrate the skills they deploy on the field of play!
The Fagan twins are just two of the entries for the North Westmeath Rose competition and they were two of nine Rose hopefuls who attended the launch of the North Westmeath Community Network last Friday night in Hotel Castlepollard.
Another Rose hopeful, Yvonne Malone from Collinstown, has a clear idea what role the escort should play too. “He does everything – buys food, carries your stuff – but you know, as long as he keeps you fed, he’s doing a good job.”
Sinead Connell said the competition is not a beauty competition: “It is based on the person, way beyond what they look like. Are they interesting people? Are they interested in other people?”
Aoife Gallagher is studying beauty and hairdressing in Cavan. “This competition is about how you present yourself. Do you have a style? Do you know what suits you? I am really looking forward to the competition in March, it is bound to be filled with glamour and style.”
The competition is still open to entries from anyone living in the north Westmeath area and the North Westmeath Community Network are hoping that the villages of Multyfarnham, Crookedwood, Clonmellon, Delvin, Finea, Fore, Collinstown, Castlepollard and Coole will all be sending entries to the competition.
The community network was founded to promote the area through supporting existing events and developing new ones.
