Enterprise alive and well in Mullingar schools
Colaiste Mhuire student Mikolas Pietrykwoski won first place in the junior category of the Westmeath Student Enterprise Awards held in Athlone last Friday February 28.
Mikolas, who makes handmade bespoke pottery under the business name of Pietry Pottery, will now go forward to represent Westmeath in the national finals which takes place in Croke Park on April 2.
Colaiste Mhuire also took second place in the senior category, with Ben Mills’ business - Slanebeg Free Range - which saw the student raise and sell turkeys.
Special judges prizes were awarded to St Joseph’s Rochfortbridge for their business plan and teamwork, while the award for best business display went to Class Kit of Castlepollard Community College.
Over 227 secondary schools took part in the event, which was jointly hosted by Mullingar’s Noel and Martina O’Farrell, in the Golden Island Shopping Centre.
