John Joe Nevin 'gutted' after attack, but vows to be back by the autumn
John Joe Nevin will be out of action for several months after being attacked in a Saturday morning incident in which he broke his leg in two places.
A statement from his management company, GreenBlood Boxing (Philadelphia) tonight said that while John Joe is gutted that his pro career has been slowed by the attack, he has vowed to come back stronger in the autumn.
Doctors told Nevin he would be out for two or three months before he could start rehabilitation on the leg.
The statement said that John Joe was attempting to act as a peacemaker in a disagreement when he was attacked in Mullingar's Ardleigh estate.
GreenBlood Boxing had hoped to have Nevin on a busy schedule getting six fights before an August break. That will be pushed back until the autumn, and the goal will be to have him 6-0 before the Christmas holiday break.
“Our schedule has been thrown off by a few months but hopefully we’ll have John Joe back working hard by mid-summer and have him fighting again stateside in September,” Tom Moran of GreenBlood said.
“John Joe is okay and hopefully the Gardaí will take care of the matter now. We were hoping to get John Joe headlining a card in Ireland in the fall but we may have to push that back some now because the big push is making him a major attraction in the Irish American audience.
"We have talks about New York, Boston and Philadelphia fights so we’ll keep working on it.”
