Call for free parking amid water works disruption
A call has been made for free parking on Saturdays to aid business in Mullingar amid the water works disruption.
The call was made by Cllr Aidan Davitt at last week's meeting of Mullingar Town Council after a businessman on Mary Street compared the upheaval to that of the Troubles in the North.
Cllr Gerry Sheridan informed members that following a survey he had carried out of affected businesses, one pharmacist on Mary Street said the works were worse than Belfast in the 70s.
This prompted Cllr Davitt to call for free parking over the next four Saturdays while the works were being completed.
Council official, Declan Leonard, said it was up to Mullingar area members to decide if free parking was an option.
