Taoiseach denies second visit to Mullingar shows flailing support for Fine Gael

Taoiseach Enda Kenny has denied that his second visit to Mullingar in just one week shows his concern for the support of the Fine Gael party in Westmeath

“I have covered the 26 counties in this campaign and I have hit several places on many occasions. I’m very happy to be back here in Mullingar to support Gabrielle McFadden,” he told the Westmeath Examiner while visiting Gabrielle McFadden’s Mullingar clinic on Dominick Street today, Thursday May 22.

“I do hope that the people of Longford Westmeath will give her a resounding vote tomorrow so she can continue the work given to her late sister (Nicky) by the people of Longford Westmeath in the 2011 general election.

“Gabrielle is a brilliant candidate and I wish her and all the candidates standing for the council the very best of luck for tomorrow.”

Enda Kenny also failed to comment on whether he thought Alan Shatter’s acceptance of his €70,000 severance package was the right thing to do.

“I think he’s allocated it to a very worthy cause. I think nobody could complain about the benefit that the children who are in the care and are the subject of attention from Jack and Jill (will receive).

“I do hope that the children who are in the care of the foundation of Jack and Jill will benefit from the transfer directly of this amount of money. Obviously I’ve heard Jonathan (Irwin, CEO of the Jack and Jill Foundation) talk on many occasions about the difficulty in raising substantial amounts of money for the children in their care. They will be the focus of my consideration and my attention.”
