Mullingar needs a military museum says new mayor
Mullingar's new mayor says that the establishment of a museum celebrating the town's rich miltiary history is one of his priorities.
At yesterday's first meeting of the new Mullingar Municipal District, Cllr Ken Glynn from Fianna Fail was appointed to the prestigous year long post, which comes with an allowance of €12,000.
Speaking at the meeting, Cllr Glynn said it was a great honour to be the first chair of the new body.
“It is a particularly proud day for me, because although I served on Mullingar Town Council for 15 years, I never had the opportunity to chair the body and this is my only regret in political life.
“Over the next 12 months I will work with you to ensure that we work in a positive fashion for the betterment of the people of the district.”
Cllr Glynn, who will use the chain of office from Mullingar Town Council, said that two of his main priorities during his 12-month tenure will be supporting the recently established Town Team in its objective to boost Mullingar retail sector and the establishment of a military museum in the town.
“Mullingar is a very proud garrison town and it needs to have a museum highlighting this history,” he said.
