4th of July celebrations

It’s 4th of July tomorrow so expect to see the Stars and Stripes flying in lots of places.

Two in particular that we’ve heard of are The Greville Arms Hotel in Mullingar and Hotel Castlepollard.

The parties go on through the weekend in both places, but for the big night the fun starts around teatime.

From 6pm, tomorrow, Friday July 4, at the Greville, there’s an American BBQ and entertainment with ‘Streetwise’, who will be playing music by Garth Brooks, Kenny Rogers, Johnny Cash and the Eagles.

At Hotel Castlepollard there is a Monster BBQ and more Garth Brooks, by one of those great tribute bands. The weekend there is part of the 10-year celebrations for Castlepollard Celtic, and the fun is also supporting LARCC.

The weekend continues with markets on the square on Saturday and Sunday, July 5 and 6.

On Sunday there will be American 'muscle cars' as well as the market and at the community college American football and baseball games for a memorial cup.

Back in Mullingar, Heebie Jeebies keep the fun going at the Greville’s Ulysses Pub on Saturday July 5 with music from Bruce Springsteen, Journey, Bob Dylan and Paul Simon.

On Sunday July 6, there’s an Elvis tribute act.
