Pieta House cycle arrives in Mullingar tomorrow
A group of 70 cyclists are getting on their bikes and pedalling all the way from Dublin to Mullingar and back again to raise awareness of Pieta House.
Starting in Drimnagh at 9am tomorrow, Saturday August 9, the Tomas Mulligan Memorial cycle will see riders travelling 80 miles covering Kilcock, Summerhill, Trim and Athboy before finally arriving in Mullingar’s Annebrook House around 4.30pm tomorrow afternoon.
The man behind it, 63-year-old Tom Mulligan from Walkinstown, said this is the seventh year of the cycle and the group hope to raise around €50,000 for their efforts.
“There will be people out with buckets in each of the towns if people want to donate. It’s all voluntary so every fiver goes straight to Pieta House and their services.
“We lost our son a number of years ago and Pieta House really does great work with those who have thoughts of suicide. To save families from that pain is worth every penny. And it’s not just about raising funds, it’s about raising awareness of Pieta House and they services they offer to people who really are in need of them.”
If you would like to find out more about Pieta House or contribute to the fundraising effort, call down to the Annebrook House tomorrow where the cyclist are due to arrive around 4.30pm.
