Woman left shocked as hatchetwielding thieves strike in kinnegad

A female employee of a supermarket was confronted by two hatchet-wielding thieves as she opened the premises early this morning.

The drama unforlded at about 5.30am this morning as the woman arrived for work at the supermarket. As she prepared to open up, two men wearing balaclavas and carrying hatchets threatened her and demanded cash.

They conducted a search of the building but there was only a small amount of petty cash in the till and the thieves rushed from the building. They made their getaway on foot, in the direction of the nearby Bun Daire housing estate.

Though shaken, the woman managed to alert gardaí and officers were quickly on the scene. A search of the immediate area proved fruitless, with no trace of the culprits being found.

Investigating officers have issued an appeal for information from residents of Bun Daire who may have getting ready to go to work, or from anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the Kinnegad area this morning.
