Call to have uisneach as unesco world heritage site
The Hill of Uisneach is part of a new plan by Westmeath County Council to have the historic area declared a World Heritage Site.
Uisneach is currently on the list of five royal sties in Ireland that have been included in a 'Tentative List' for consideration by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
Just two Irish locations, Brú na Bóinne and Sceilig Mhichill are inlcuded on the list to date.
Uisneach will have to meet one of 10 selection criteria to move it to its next stage.
Bernadette Solan, council conservation architect and heritage officer, said Uisneach is regarded as the epicentre or naval of Ireland in a similar way to how Delphi was regarded in Greece.
