CanTeen Ireland, a nationwide support group for young people who have or have had cancer, and for their brothers, sisters and friends, launched its new DVD ‘The Big C Ain’t Gonna Stop Me!’ at the Mansion House with the help CanTeen Ireland members on Saturday October 11 last.
Featuring CanTeen Ireland members including Kyle Haugh from Mullingar, the DVD includes interviews, chats and stories by members on their personal experiences and how CanTeen has been there to help.
Each year it is estimated that 200 teenagers are diagnosed with cancer, so this DVD is guide to teenage cancer that aims to show how the right support can make a world of difference to a teenager who might be feeling upset and alone.
As well as launching its DVD, CanTeen Ireland will host its annual winter ball on Saturday November 8 this year in the Crown Plaza in Santry. Comedian Steve Cummins, a veteran of The Laughter Lounge in Dublin, will host the ball, which will be attended by CanTeen members and their family, and friends of the charity. Dr Charles Gillham of St Luke’s Hospital will speak on the night, alongside CanTeen members.
CanTeen currently has over 260 members, who range in age from 12 to 25 years. Throughout the year, CanTeen organise weekends away to various activity centres all over Ireland and even as far as New Zealand.
